More Brides Opting For The Natural Look

When it comes to getting married there’s a lot to think about and one of the things that brides might be worrying about is how to get the perfect makeup. This might be something you’re particularly concerned about if you’re not the kind of person who usually wears much makeup either.

However, the latest Pinterest wedding report shows that an increasing number of brides are opting for the natural look when they walk down the aisle.

Among the makeup items with the biggest increase in searches on the site were lip gloss – up 459 per cent in the last year – and barely-there shine, up 343 per cent in the same period.

Messy updos also seem to be the go-to hairstyle, with searches for this term climbing by 1247 per cent in the last year. All of this is good news if you’re planning a Cyprus beach wedding, as there will be loads of inspiration out there for your big day.

And let’s face it, if you’re getting married with your feet in the sand and the sun shining down, you’re probably not going to want to be wearing tons of makeup.

Pinterest also noted that, when it comes to bridal outfits, comfort appears to be a priority, with searches for jumpsuits, sleeves and flat shoes all up on last year.

For grooms, a more casual approach to wedding attire seems to be taking over as well, with searches for tie-free ensembles up by 459 per cent in the same period.

Meanwhile, Brides magazine recently shared the top wedding trends for 2018 as predicted by the Joy app in the US.

One of the things it said we can expect is a more unplugged approach to weddings – that means asking guests not to take photos during the ceremony or at key moments in the day, instead letting the official photographer get all the best shots and angles.

Whenever a new list of wedding trends appears, there are some that you can look at and know that they just won’t work if you’re planning your wedding in Paphos. The rising popularity of doughnut walls as highlighted by eBay recently being one.

However, there are some wider trends that could transition perfectly to a wedding on the gorgeous island of Cyprus, like the popularity of the colour pink.

According to the online marketplace, there has been an increase in the number of people searching for pink wedding dresses, almost 600 in the past month in fact. If you’re having a less traditional wedding overseas, then mixing up your outfit and going for something with a bit of colour is likely to suit you down to the ground.

Celebrities Agyness Deyn and Gwen Stefani are credited with inspiring brides to look for gowns in shades of pink. Meanwhile, Princess Eugenie’s engagement ring, which features a pink sapphire, has also been offering inspiration to loved up couples.

In the week that the royal announced her engagement to long-term boyfriend Jack Brooksbank, the number of searches for ‘pink sapphire’ on the website doubled.

Another trend inspired by celebrities that may translate well to an overseas ceremony is that of the wedding arch. According to eBay, celebrities like the Kardashians regularly make use of balloon arches at events, and this could be why more and more couples are looking to include arches in their big day’s decor.

There were almost 1,000 searches for wedding arches on the website between the beginning of January and the beginning of February.

New Now Next recently spoke to destination wedding expert Michael Radolinski to get his advice about what’s involved in planning this kind of ceremony.

He started by explaining why a destination wedding is such a special way to celebrate your marriage, noting that the ceremony and reception “can feel like a highlight to an incredible and memorable multi-day experience, rather than a fleeting moment in time”.

The first thing to consider when choosing your ideal place for your wedding ceremony is that it communicates something about you and your relationship.

Once you’ve sorted that out, you need to think of some of the practicalities, particularly your guests’ experiences. You want to make travelling to and from your chosen location as easy as possible – and affordable.

That’s why Cyprus is such a great option for couples in the UK, because flights aren’t too long and are also affordable.

Another of Mr Radolinski’s top tips is to check that there is accommodation available at a range of price points, to ensure that as many of your friends and family as possible are able to afford the trip.

He added that there can be communication issues if you’re trying to organise your wedding remotely, which is why a wedding planner can be invaluable – especially if you don’t speak the local language.

If you have your heart set on a Cyprus wedding, make sure you think carefully about what time of year you’d like to plan your nuptials for. Winter can be a bit too chilly for an outdoor wedding, but in the height of summer you’ll have to contend with temperatures that could be uncomfortably hot. Spring and autumn are typically better times of year for a beach wedding.

But if you’re looking at this stunning Mediterranean spot, when is the best time of year to plan your nuptials? The trick is in getting the right balance with the weather – come in the heart of summer and not only do the beaches tend to be packed, but it can also be very hot.

In the winter, meanwhile, it can be much cooler, so although the sands will be largely empty it might be too chilly for an alfresco wedding.

The best time of year for pleasant weather is the spring, according to Rough Guides, when temperatures are warm and balmy without being too hot, and there tend to be fewer crowds.

As you move into the summer, the heat ramps up – average temperatures on the coast are 30 to 35 degrees C, while inland the mercury can hit 40 degrees C. The autumn is still pleasantly warm, but is usually more humid than spring.

You may have to stick to school holidays to accommodate friends or family who have children, or if you have kids yourselves, in which case going towards the beginning or end of the summer break is a good option – or fitting your wedding into a half term.

For guys, planning what to wear to their beach wedding can be a challenge, so you may want to take the advice of celebrity stylist Ilaria Urbinati, who recommends opting for a lightweight suit in cotton or linen, rather than the traditional tux.

Whether your wedding is set for early next year, or isn’t until December 2018, there are certain things you’ll need to do at various stages during the planning process.

This holds true whether you’re getting married at a local church, or are jetting off for a paradise wedding in Paphos on the beach.

If you’re still a year away then you may well still be looking for venues, and trying to find suppliers for other elements of your wedding. For overseas weddings, it’s best to arrange a package that covers everything from your marriage licence and the service to a meal for you and your guests.

When you’re six months away from the big day, you should be finalising any other suppliers who aren’t included as part of the package – that might be a photographer, entertainment or decorations.

With three months to go, you should make your running order for the day, if you haven’t already, and sort out your seating plan.

In the final week before your wedding, confirming final details with your venue and wedding planner is the priority – then it’s just a case of packing your bags and making sure you don’t forget anything important before you board the plane and head to Cyprus.

‘Lose The Tux, Keep The Shoes’ – Beach Wedding Style Advice For Gents

Bridal magazines and the fashion glossies make it very easy for women to pick and choose what to wear for Cyprus beach weddings – from footwear to how to wear your hair, the ladies are well taken care of. But what about the gentlemen?

Writing for Men’s Journal, celebrity stylist Ilaria Urbinati has a few pointers to help the men who may feel a little lost at sea when considering their attire for a wedding somewhere hot an exotic.

Unless it is black tie, the suit can stay hanging up in the wardrobe, the expert said.

A lightweight suit made with cotton or linen with an unconstructed line is better for a beach wedding as these options are cooler. And when it comes to choosing a colour, pale greys, blues and neutrals are a good option.

Once the suit is sorted, then you can start thinking about what to put on your feet, but do not be tempted to swap a proper shoe for a flip-flop, Urbinati said.

Sandals are too casual, instead a neutral lace-up without socks is a good way to go, but avoid heavy fabrics like suede. Loafers also work well.

Finally, a touch of the formal without risking looked overdressed is to pick either a good tie or a nice pocket square – one or the other, not both.

A beach wedding indicates a more laidback dress code unless specified, but it is still a wedding, so a nod to formality in the form of a chic pocket square or a simple tie, which can be loosened in the evening, is ideal.

Would Prince Harry Prefer A Beach Wedding?

Even the Royals would be interested in Cyprus beach weddings, it has recently been suggested.

While the UK (and the rest of the world) awaits details of Prince Harry’s wedding to Megan Merkel, we suspect that Prince Harry would rather sneak away to a beach than make his vows in front of the world’s press.

So far all we know is that the happy couple are planning on eschewing Royal tradition, and instead of getting married in Westminster Abbey where Harry’s brother and parents married, will be marrying at Windsor Castle.

Windsor Castle is outside of London and St. George’s Chapel, where they will eventually marry, is smaller than Westminster Abbey.

The Abbey is also where Prince Harry’s mother Princes Diana’s funeral was held, so may hold difficult memories for him.

Despite this lower key wedding for the fifth in line to the throne, there are many who think he would rather just escape to a beach somewhere.

“Harry would probably love to go away and do it in secret on a beach, probably in Africa if he was able to, however he knows that that’s one thing that he’s not going to get away with,” said ABC Royal News Contributor Victoria Murphy.

Wedding Costs On The Rise In The UK

The cost of getting married in the UK is climbing – adding yet another reason to head overseas and have the dream Cyprus wedding you’ve been hoping for.

Research conducted by Hitched.co.uk found that the average amount spent on a wedding in the UK is now £27,161, the Guardian reported.

In the breakdown of the costs, hiring the wedding venue was found to be the most expensive part of organising the big day, coming in at an average of £4,354. The next biggest expense was the honeymoon at £3,630.

If you get married overseas, you could save some money on this part by staying in your idyllic beachside location after the wedding for your first week as a married couple.

The third biggest cost was for food for the wedding guests, hitting £3,353. Again, choosing somewhere like Cyprus for your wedding could help here too, as you’ll probably have a smaller guest list if you’re tying the knot on foreign shores.

In fact, the newspaper even suggested this as an option if you’re looking for a way of reducing the cost of getting married, noting that it can be considerably cheaper to have your nuptials abroad rather than in the UK.

Of course, getting married overseas will come with its own challenges, but as long as you’re prepared for all the practicalities of having a wedding outside of the UK, and are realistic about how many guests you can invite, you’ll have a wonderful wedding day to remember.
