Traditional Cypriot Donkey

Traditionally the humble donkey was used to carry out work for local farmers, and often acted as the main means of transport for the family. Nowadays modern technology has made the working donkey largely redundant in Cyprus. The Paphiakos CCP Animal Welfare organisation is is registered charity which is responsible for rescuing and caring for thousands of abandoned or stray dogs, cats, rabbits, horses and donkeys. When animals are rescued they are given veterinarian treatment if necessary. The animals are cared for by staff and volunteers, given a much better quality of life, and animals are re-homed where possible. Currently the sanctuary has around 70 donkeys in residence. The majority of the money charged for the hire of a donkey at your wedding is donated to the charity as The Paphos Wedding Company is a sponsor.
